It’s actually amazing that we’ve gotten this far into Metal March without me mentioned Sikth, an English 6-piece outfit that’s probably my all-time favorite metal band.
Their riff writing, overall non-linear composition style, and unique-sounding dual vocalists all combine to make an incredibly different metal sound. Add to that the fact that their one vocalist who sings can ACTUALLY sing, and BAM, what a great band.
Side note, but how do I know he can actually sing, and not just sing on the album, in-studio? I saw them live a few years ago when they did a USA tour. I was extremely nervous, as I felt that if the guy couldn’t actually sing, it would ruin it a bit for me.
But nope. Not only was the entire band flawless in person, but the singer was excellent.
Skies of the Millenium Night is a great introductory tune if you don’t know the band. It’s a perfect mix of their trademark near-chaos, beautiful melodies, singing and screaming, and fun syncopated rhythms.
