Wor Wednesday #4: The Worluck

Well, another Wednesday, another Wor Wednesday! We’ll take a day off from enjoy amazing fight scenes to get back to what really matters in life: Wizard of Wor high scores.

This week, lets discuss the first of the two “boss” enemies.

Fist off, the Worluck. The Worluck does not make an appearance on the first map of the game, but appears in every map for the rest of the game. If you kill it, you get your score doubled on the following board. Killing this thing is absolutely critical to high scores, but it’s sometimes easier said than done.

The Worluck appears once you’ve killed the last enemy on the map, and it moves very quickly. In general, it moves away from the player, and its goal is to exit through one of the two teleporter doors on the side of the map. It can kill you like any other monster, but you can also bump off of it like any other monster.

The teleporter doors both open permanently shortly after the Worluck appears, so you can babysit both sides, waiting for it to attempt to exit and killing it.

One thing you can do is to stay near the very center of the map as soon as you kill the last enemy and the Worluck appears. It will tend to fly around a bit if you’re near the center, giving you a chance to kill it. If you’re on the far edge of the board, definitely head to the teleporter, since the Worluck will quickly run away via the opposite teleporter and you need to cut it off.

Honestly, timing the kill for the Worluck is a matter of rhythm, and only after playing a bunch will you get good at timing your shots and predicting the Worluck movement pattern.

One map in particular to be aware of is The Arena. The Worluck will always start in the middle section of the arena, and it can be difficult to track down. I usually attempt a well-timed shot down the center lane and look to hit it while it lines up to run for an exit.

The Worluck is absolutely key to high scores, so I hope this helps you hit it more often!
