Black Dahlia Murder is arguably one of the more popular modern metal bands, and with good reason.
The drum work is excellent, and they maintain an excellent mix of speed, brutality, galloping riffs, and solid symphonic melody.
I could have pick any out of a ton of songs, but I’ve always enjoyed this one. The music video also highlights the band’s sense of humor, which is something I’ve always loved a lot of metal. The ones who take themselves super seriously aren’t terribly interesting. But the ones like BDM, who realize that, while they’re certainly serious musicians, are also screaming and growling ridiculous over-the-top lyrics about macabre subjects… man, they just have a lot of fun with it.
Unfortunately, lead singer Trevor Strnad died recently. While the band is continuing on with the fellow founding member and lead guitarist stepping down to become the lead vocalist, I honestly wonder how the band will sound now. Trevor’s vocals – he does both the high pitched screams and low growls (I originally thought they had 2 vocalists) – are such a trademark part of the sound.
