Trivium has an old-school metal feel to me. The vocals are newer-style and more modern, and the drummer is definitely modern, but the sound of the tracks is overall more of a throwback.
I think a lot of it has to do with the sound of the guitars. They have a very classic sounding fuzz sound to them, rather than going with the massive, detuned djent sound that many modern bands have adopted.
I’m actually surprised at what a clean and pleasant singing voice the vocalist has, considering that his scream is pretty solid. It’s not the most amazing thing in metal or anything, though adding fuzz distortion to the vocals helps it a bit.
While Trivium isnt a band I listened to all the time, they’re definitely enjoyable to throw on here and there. Check em out.
